You probably recognize Aaron Diaz from one of your favorite Monday night shows Quantico starring Priyanka Chopra. Now, the Miami-based actor—who boasts over 2M Instagram followers—is going in front of the camera in a new light, as the face of Perry Ellis’ new fragrance for men, which he toasted last night at Kola House.
Love you on Quantico! Are you doing a lot of modeling these days?
I only do it when I really believe in what I’m wearing. Believe it or not, I’m a shy person. You think an actor can’t be shy, but I am. I act for a living so that means I basically lie for a living [Laughs] but when I put my face to a brand I want to know exactly what I’m saying comes from within. I don’t want to have to act with that as well. In this case it’s Perry Ellis. It’s incredible that you can wear anything from casual to sporty to formal and everything in between with one brand. It makes life a lot more simple.
Are you more into acting or modeling?
I love that I get to interpret with acting. That’s what I do for a living. I create characters. For me, modeling is also like creating a character—I’m playing the character of a model.
We read that you designed at one point in your life…
Yes, that happened! I didn’t find what I liked, so I got people who knew about design and all of the sudden I had a brand and a store. It was organic. It was a while back. I’ve always been interested in fashion and I admire people who are in this industry because it’s not simple. You have to really know what you’re doing, which I didn’t. At the end of the day people appreciate what you’re doing. This is how I feel with Perry Ellis—even if I wasn’t the face of the brand I’d still be wearing it because it’s so comfortable and great.
Are you back on Quantico this season?
With Quantico you can’t believe anything until it says “The End” of the end. I don’t want to spoil anything for you. You saw the end of last season—do you believe what your eyes saw? I had a hard time with it all too as I read the scripts.
What else are you working on these days?
I’ve had a 15-year career and between one project and another I always give myself and the audience time. I think we both need to rest in order to create a new character. What I’ve always looked for throughout my career is making sure I don’t play the same character over again. I’m seeing what’s out there now—I assure you what I pick to do next will be completely different from the characters that I’ve played. I’ll have to decide in the next couple of weeks!
